Curated and directed by Luis Cardel, "Somos Agua" (We Are Water) is a groundbreaking, multi-faceted pavilion experience designed to stimulate thought and conversation about the crucial role of water in our lives and our urban environments.Situated in the Museum of Water Xotepingo, Mexico City, the pavilion explores the intimate relationship between humans and water, encapsulating it within three core experiential realms - Estado, Proveniente, and Pantalla de Agua. These exhibits use high-definition visuals, interactive designs, and intricate data mapping to present an immersive journey through the city's water system, our physiological connection to water, and the artistic interpretation of its flow and dance. The "Somos Agua" project incorporates avant-garde technology such as LiDAR scanning, 3D modeling, AR technology, and holographic projections, meticulously piecing together an intricate, scientifically-rooted, and aesthetically-appealing narrative of water. Using a special AR application, it presents the monumental magnitude of Mexico City's water system, simulating it for visitors in a simplified, comprehensible manner.A brainchild of Luis Cardel, the project is an exemplar of his visionary blend of art, science, and technology. It stands testament to his skill as a UX designer and research leader, uniquely merging experiential art and tangible data to foster a greater appreciation of the invisible yet indispensable network of water that binds us and our city. With "Somos Agua," Cardel beckons visitors to dive deep into the heart of their city's life-giving water system, explore its beauty, and comprehend its indispensability, nurturing a consciousness for preservation and sustainable use.

The Somos Agua Pavilion, envisioned and brought to life under the creative direction of Luis Cardel, features three main experiences that explore the profound relationship between water, our bodies, and the city. Estado (State): “Estado” is a 360-degree immersive audiovisual experience developed over eight months and meticulously constructed for the pavilion. This 8K interactive projection illustrates the abstract importance of becoming water, emphasizing its significance within our bodies and urban environments. The experience invites visitors to engage with the concept of water on a visceral level, blending art and technology to create a captivating narrative. Proveniente (Coming From): “Proveniente” is a unique application specifically created for the pavilion using data provided by SACMEX, the institute responsible for potable water in Mexico City. This augmented reality app allows visitors to interact with a scale model of Mexico City (1:10000) and explore the origins and distribution of the city’s water supply. Through this interactive medium, visitors gain a deeper understanding of the complexities and importance of water management in urban areas. Pantalla de Agua (Waterscreen): “Pantalla de Agua” features a holographic projection on a two-hour loop, created exclusively for the pavilion. The choreography, directed by renowned Mexico City dancer Raul Tamez, complements the visual spectacle. The animations and numerous photographs were captured and crafted by Luis Cardel, adding a personal artistic touch to the experience. This mesmerizing waterscreen installation offers a dynamic and ethereal representation of water, further enriching the pavilion’s narrative. The Somos Agua Pavilion stands as a testament to innovative design and creative storytelling, inviting visitors to reflect on the essential role of water in our lives and cities. Through these immersive experiences, the pavilion aims to foster a deeper appreciation for water conservation and sustainable practices.
