Located in Iztapalapa and supported by the Government of Mexico City and the Secretaría de Cultura, “Yancuic” aims to decentralize culture with engaging experiences for children and youth. Under the creative direction of Luis Cardel at Cocay Studio, the museum features the fully developed “Sistema Solar y Cosmovisión” (Solar System and Worldview) exhibition, offering an immersive blend of multimedia technology and interactive elements exploring astronomical, terrestrial, cultural, and ecological themes. Visitors embark on a journey from the universe’s vastness to Earth’s geological evolution and Nahua cosmology, culminating in an exploration of ecosystem dynamics involving trees and soil microorganisms. “Yancuic” merges interactive exhibits with educational content, presenting a vibrant exploration of Mexican culture, nature, and technology. Opened in December 2023, it has quickly become a hub, hosting over 4,000 daily visitors as an educational oasis amidst urban life.

Creative Director & Concept Design with Cocay Studio
My involvement in Yancuic began with the conceptualization of several halls and the integral design of the museum. As the Creative Director, I ensured that each space not only captivates but also educates, fostering a deep connection with the themes presented. The process involved extensive research and collaboration with educational experts, artists, and community leaders to ensure the museum’s relevance and impact. I developed immersive experiences that transport young visitors into the heart of Mexican culture and nature. By integrating advanced technology, interactive exhibits, and engaging educational content, I aimed to create an environment where children can learn through exploration and play. The immersive soundscapes, interactive infographics, and innovative design elements were all meticulously planned to enhance the overall visitor experience. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, not all designed halls could be realized. Despite these limitations, the implemented halls reflect a commitment to quality and innovation. Throughout the project, my focus was on creating a space that inspires wonder and discovery. The design process involved careful selection of materials, ensuring sustainability, and promoting a culture of environmental responsibility. The curatorial process was equally meticulous, ensuring that each exhibit was both informative and engaging. Yancuic is the latest feather in my cap, promising a renewed sense of wonder and discovery for the children of Mexico City, paving the way for brighter futures. My role extended beyond just design; it was about creating an experience that leaves a lasting impact, encouraging young visitors to appreciate their cultural heritage and the natural world around them.
